Their Crew Training Manual, in addition to comprehensive guidance on specific careers within the industry, also has good practical advice about how to go about getting that all important first job.

The Superyacht sector is an international community offering lots of opportunity to take up a stimulating and rewarding career. With an estimated worth of £492m in 2013/14, a Superyacht is a sailing or motor yacht larger than 30 metres long. In big handfuls, there are about 5000 of these extremely expensive vessels - expensive both to buy and to run. Team work and high standards are a must and a wish to give of your best will get you off to a good start. Starting as a deckhand, it is possible with experience to progress through the officer ranks as a Watchkeeper, leading ultimately to Captain. Different standards of "ticket", the term used to describe the mandatory STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) qualifications, authorise you to operate ever larger sizes of yachts and indeed can lead to watchkeeping in large commercial and cruise vessels. If you work for more than 6 months of a year outside UK territorial waters, then an already good salary is further boosted by not having to pay UK tax on your earnings. Now that can't be bad!
