Because of the skilled nature of engineering work, Port Engineers will normally be expected to hold a degree level qualification in Engineering or a suitably related subject. Experience in the industry or with the types of equipment used would be desirable. Many Port Engineers will have previously been workshop managers and engineering/mechanical supervisors.

About: Port: Engineer
The Port Engineer will manage all aspects of engineering activity undertaken in the port area. They will be responsible for managing resources for engineering operations, including manpower requirements and maintaining port equipment to the required specifications. They will also ensure that any engineering assets and spares are cost effectively sourced, and that a working Health and Safety strategy is developed for engineering operations in the port environment.
Port Engineers will spend the majority of their time working in an office environment, co-ordinating resources for engineering in the port. There may be some time spent on the quayside, inspecting equipment and assessing the efficiency of operations.
