Diver
Become: Diver
So how do I get a job as a diver I hear you asking. Well firstly you can start gaining experience of the ocean, read what you can and learn about the basics. Leisure diving is a great start to help you decide if you like it down there! Additionally some skills or trades such as fitting, welding or engineering help you to find the roles you want. To enter the field professionally you'll ideally need an A Level in science among others and a degree in a course which will allow you to specialise in some degree of underwater or offshore engineering via options or a project.
About: Diver
When most people consider their careers, they usually assume they will be able to breathe! Underwater environments need people like you too, and there are literally 'Oceans of opportunities' out there. But what sort of work could you do underwater? And why would you want to? Keep reading and you may just find an opportunity that suits your interests...
As technology advances and resources become more scarce there is more emphasis being put on getting our resources from the sea and producing energy using the power of the sea. Ever fancied working on underwater fans that are powered by the moon? It's possible with the tidal power generating turbines now in use around the world.

Working underwater doesn't even mean you need to get wet anymore, submersible Remote Operated Vessels (ROV's) all require pilots, whether inside them or hundreds of metres up in the control room of a ship. For example the Titanic was photographed and inspected by an ROV at a depth of 3800 metres with three crew inside!!
If getting wet is more your thing there are hundreds of jobs that require divers. This could include inspecting the legs of an Oil Rig, working with marine scientists to find out what lies on the ocean floor or even underwater construction such as welding and engineering. Divers are also needed in the armed services, the police and the media.
The exciting underwater career you want is out there and waiting! Follow the links below for more information.
